Mayor Jason Farmer’s first public engagement was in March, presenting a cheque of £990 to Darley Dale Scout Group. This will enable the group to buy additional camping equipment and in turn allow them to organise more camping trips.
Debbie Steeples, Group Scout Leader said:
“Darley Dale Scout Group are delighted to have been granted funding to enable them to purchase new equipment. The lightweight tents will be used for both expeditions and campsite camping. This gives us much more scope for the adventures we have planned.
The event shelter we will buy allows us to create a covered cooking and eating area when on camps and can also be used during activities outside at the Scout Hut. We have seen growing numbers of young people join us over the last couple of years and are currently full in all 3 sections.
We are also always on the lookout for adults to join our team on a regular or ad-hoc basis.”
Darley Dale Town Council runs a grant scheme that offers practical financial support to voluntary and community groups, clubs, local charities and not-for-profit organisations where the use can be shown to be of benefit to Darley Dale or residents of Darley Dale.
