Summary of Local Plan Committee meeting 13th May 2026
The Local Plan Committee meeting held on 13th May was the final meeting before publication of the draft Local Plan at their next meeting in June 2026. At the meeting, the committee voted on the proposed sites for future development and had to consider whether to reject the proposed sites and delay the Local Plan review process, risking direct government involvement if a new Local Plan was not presented, or accept the proposed sites so that the plan could be completed. The background pressure was that even with all the proposed sites, the plan falls some 700 houses short of the government set target for the overall plan area over the 15 year period.
The committee voted to accept the proposed sites.
This was the last opportunity for Darley Dale Town Council to influence the Local Plan and how it will impact Darley Dale, and the Town Council submitted many papers following publication of the proposed sites, to the committee for consideration, but to no avail. These documents are available on the Town Council’s website here. We trust residents will be assured that the Town Council did all it could to influence the emerging Draft Local Plan.
The revised Draft Local Plan will be presented to the committee at their June meeting and no further opportunity exists to alter its content before it is submitted to the Planning Inspector in September for consideration and ultimate adoption. A six week public consultation takes place in August and residents are invited to make their thoughts and views known at this time – the Town Council will publish details on how to get involved at that stage.
